Step 3 - Choosing a Template
Previous Topic  Next Topic

1) Click the 'Choose Template' tab:

2) Click the 'Select Template' tab (if not already selected)

3) Scroll down the list of supplied templates until you find one that looks good for the style of site you are doing.  The templates have been loosely categorized as 'Adsense', 'Affiliate' or 'Product' depending on the type of site you are developing.  The category assignments are somewhat arbitrary because you COULD use any template for any type of site.

However, if you are building an 'Adsense' site, the templates categorized as 'Adsense' have a design that allows for easy insertion of Adsense code (supplied by Google Adsense - you need to have a Google Adsense account to acquire the correct code) or other pay-per-click affiliate programs.  Similarly, the 'Product' templates have a design that works well for a site that showcases a product of your own, and the 'Affiliate' templates have a design that works well for a site showcasing multiple affiliate products.  You can use any template you choose, though.

*Note:  Some of the supplied templates in ThemeMatic are more robust in the sense that sections of the template are already included for 'Custom Tokens' to be inserted.  These would include:

       - andreas08

       - corporate_slave

       - natatorium

Additionally, a few of the supplied templates may require additional modification by you to include all of the given functionality.  For example, 'Contented2' has a 'Contact' link that appears in the top and bottom of the template but you would need to provide a link to your email or contactus page for this link to function.  You may choose to remove the link code from the template instead.

4) To view a supplied template's details, click either the 'Template Thumbnail' or 'View Template' button on that row (see above screen-shot).

5) To view a full-scale example of the template, click the 'Template URL' link at the bottom of the 'Template Info' tab (visible after clicking the 'Template Thumbnail' or 'View Template' button in Step #4 above):

*Note:  ThemeMatic allows for creating/adding your own templates and/or modifying the existing supplied templates for those that have basic HTML and/or CSS experience.  For the purposes of this 'Quick Start Guide' these advanced features are not discussed.  See the other sections of this User's Guide for instructions on how to add/modify your templates.

6) To select a template to use from the supplied templates, click the 'Select Template' tab to view the list of supplied templates, and then click the 'Select Template' button on that row.

*Note:  If you had previously selected a template for the current theme, clicking the 'Select Template' button will delete any custom modifications to your previous template selection you may have done.  A dialog box appears warning you of this when you click the 'Select Template' button.  At this point in the 'Quick Start Guide', you should not have to worry about this.
